Semmy Schilt winning third K-1 on a row! Print

Tokyo – 8th of December this year was the day that IBK’s proud, Sem Schilt wrote history in Yokohama Arena in Japan. For the first time in the 14 year history of the K-1 he won the tournament for the third time in a row! Although there are also people winning it several time, nobody ever achieved this by keeping the form and fitness for over three years!
Semmy met Brazilian Glaube Feitose, the strong man from Kyokushin in the first tournament fight. Sem and Glaube have a history of Sem winning over him by way of KO for two times already, so this must have been the main thought of the Brasilian Feitose during the fight. Sem thought simple and clear, not taking unnecessary risks, and scoring lots of point throughout the fight. In the third round Sem was surprised by a left muashi gere (high kick) which struck him on the head, although Sem had to take a step backward he was never in any danger and he won the fight on point decision.
In the second fight Sem had to meet the French Jerome Le Banner, which stood no chance against the tall man from Zuidlaren. He defeated LeBanner with a KO. This year Sem would meet Dutchman Peter Aerts. In the first round, when Peter was being stopped by a devastating jab from Schilt, he turned away and he injured his knee, leaving him with a lot of pain.
Semmy, however proved to the world, to be the absolute champion, winning this world title for the third time in a row!

Congratulations to Sem Schilt, Dave Jonkers and all the people involved with the training and preparation of Semmy!
