the Holland Oyama Cup 2011Dream start for Sammy-Lee Muller IBK and Patrick Zondag IBK at the Holland Oyama Cup 2011.
Both fighters from the Ruud Muller Dojo IBK started the Holland Oyama Cup with two victories.
Sammy-Lee gained victory in his first round against the heavy weight Cem Senol and his second round against Matthias Kelderman. Patrick Zondag, fighting the light weight class, won his first round against Farid Ferdinand and his second round against Dennis Nelisse.
All in all, a possibility to end up with a trophy- but then… After the recess, Sammy-Lee had to fight Roel Noordman- who had to put up with hard low kicks en punches from Sammy-Lee, but managed to last the 2x2 minutes-
The weighing machine was brought in and due the fact Roel Noordman was 10 kg lighter, the victory was his.
Same story in the round for third or fourth place, in which Sammy-Lee’s opponent was Jan van Beek.
After the 2x2 minute rounds it ended up hike wake (undecided) and again it was the weighing machine bringing the decision. Because Jan van Beek was 9 kg lighter than Sammy-Lee, victory was Beek’s. Also Patrick Zondag experienced some bad luck.
He started his third round very well against Dennis Carmio. Half way the round, a very hard low kick of Patrick was blocked by his opponent, leaving Patrick with some heavy injury on his leg and was not able to continue the round.
This automatically made Camio the victor. In spite of the leg injury, Patrick decided to fight for third and fourth place, knowing not being able to use his leg to throw some kicks.
Limiting to just punching was his only option. At the beginning it seemed to be working out great for Patrick, just punching.
But his opponent found out about Patrick’s injuries and took over the attacks and won the round against Patrick. But the brave performances of Patrick were later on rewarded with the HOC Henny Ruberg Spirit price 2011.
