Report 12th Open Kyokushin Night Training 2009 Print

Ichi ni, san chi, ichi ni, san chi….The primal rhythm of the kyokushinka’s, who on the Friday night of 5 to 6 June populated the beach of Scheveningen, was heard in the near surroundings. The annual night training, an initiative of Ruud Muller Dojo IBK from Leidschendam, was held again. The training commenced around 01:00 am with an honourable ceremony, in memory of the recently deceased sensei Fred Muller. After this they went for a run to the beach and after a run of approximately a kilometre, the warming-up on the beach began. The groups were crammed with kicking- and punching techniques for the hard labor that would follow that night. But first…..tug of war!! Eight groups were formed and a serious competition broke lose. The participants (and everybody had to join!!), were rushed to the finishing line by loud cheering of the crowd. After a little more than an hour the 90 step stairs was waiting…. Up tempo up, kicks left, kicks right, up, forwards… Shihan Ruud Muller did not leave any doubts about the purpose of this training. But for those present, the voice sounded through the megaphone, was familiar. After the stairs training, further up to the bicycle stand for a basic training and next to the dunes, to a dune path with sloping edges that made the 200 sit-ups with double punch extra hard.

All those present could count on some stimulation of the shinai (bamboo sword) of the present instructors.

The instructors were: Shihan Ruud Muller, Shihan John v/d Werf, Shihan Henk Gerhards, Shihan Willem Brunekreef, Shihan Can Sahinbas, Sensei Ben van Dooyerweert, Sensei Dennis Ramdien, Sensei Clive Emanuelson, Sensei John Koens, Sensei Ruud van Buuren en Sensei Ron Metselaar. And finally, on the beach, next to the flood mark, after half an hour ten rounds of sparring, the time had come for endings. A long white line consisting of roughly 90 karateka in szeeza….eyes closed…..fists to the sides….complete silence facing the sea…..it had been done…..meanwhile the clock pointed 4:30 am….The 12th Night training of Ruud Muller Dojo, with participants of all over the country, had the ultimate character of how Kyokushin was meant to be by Mas. Oyama… Without the mutually differences of the unions, all worked hard to achieve the same goal…Go beyond your own limits with the respect for the individual and support of the group….Because, helping each other when needed, makes us stronger.
